When Listening Is More Important Than Doing

Jesus brought Peter, James & John on a mountain & had them a glimpse of His glory when He transfigured. With such awe & wonder, Peter zealously said to Jesus, “Lord it is good for us to be here. If you wish, I will put up three shelters- one for you, one for Moses & one for Elijah”(Matthew 17:4). And the Scriptures emphasizes this- “WHILE he was still speaking, a bright cloud enveloped them, and a voice from the cloud said, ‘This is my Son, whom I love; with Him I am well pleased. LISTEN TO HIM’”(v5).

Sometimes we have this mentality that in order to please God we need to do something for Him and indeed, the Bible has tons of passages encouraging us to do so. But ZEAL is not the only gauge for one’s spirituality. Our schedule can be full of church activities or reaching out to the needy & yet there is no real, active & honest intimacy with God… there is no daily quality time of LISTENING to Him through His words. A few examples of this are the following:

• Jesus rebuked Martha for being distracted on food preparation rather than to focus on communion with Him as He ministered to them (Luke 19:38-40)
• Jesus rebuked the church of Ephesus for being busy with the ministry but there was no intimacy with the God of ministry (Revelation 2:1-7)
• Jesus rebuked the multitudes that sacrificially followed Him because they were only after His provisions but not in an active communion with Him (John 6:26)
Why do we need to listen to Christ everyday?
• Because we are in a love-relationship with Christ through the merit of His death on the cross & God’s gracious election (John 1:11-12, 3:16, Ephesians 2:3-9)
• Because we have been instructed by God to “LISTEN TO HIM” (Matthew 17:5) because “He is the Word became flesh & made His dwelling among us”( John 1:14).
• Because we can never go wrong or be captivated with fear around us for sure, He is our Shepherd who will “make us lie down to green pastures” and “lead us to quiet waters” (Psalm 23:2).
Delight in His words today…LISTEN TO HIM.

Let us continue to pray for one another.
It’s a wonderful day to live and a delight to know that He will never leave us nor forsake us. Stay happy and healthy guys😁👍🙌
