When Servitude Means Greatness

There’s this story in the scriptures that Jesus heeded to the request of a mother to heal her demon-possessed daughter (Mark 7:24-30) but there was also one wherein He did not. That was when “the mother of Zebeddee’s sons came to Jesus with her sons, and kneeling down, asked a favor of Him”(Matthew 20:20) to let both of her children sit beside His throne. He declined such a request and taught to His disciples the following: “You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them and their high officials exercise authority over them. Not so with you. Instead whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant and whoever wants to be first must be your slave- just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many”(vv25-28).

In God’s vocabulary, greatness means serving others and the perfect example is no one else but Christ Himself when He became a man like us and become a willing sacrifice to redeem us from our sins- no greater justice, no greater love, no greater service when He obeyed His Father’s will for our sake and for His glory!

Is servitude part of our lifestyle?

Do we ask God to give us a servant’s heart towards someone today?

Or are we so consumed of our personal survival?

There are numerous ways on how to serve others each day…
• Husbands, give your wife a good back or leg massage every end of the day
• Wives, prepare a healthy meal to your husband
• Children, help in the household chores
• Use the internet or social networking sites to serve others by inspiring them with your “reflections” or offering your service to pray for them and their loved ones. There’s this sister in the Lord in San Jose, California who appreciates my reflections like this one and she messaged me one time that she’s always grateful every time she received it. Moreover, she asked me to never get tired of sending her such devotional thoughts. She’s a frontline!

Our simple service to others may mean a lot to them. I am blessed to have pastors and staff that offer their services to unload me of my daily ministerial duties. I am blessed to have friends that support me and my family in different ways and I appreciate them all.

Ask God today to give you the privilege of serving someone today because in this way we follow the path of Christlikeness.

I remembered you in prayer today.
